Bartley Johnson's
work has been seen around Albuquerque over the past several years.
I have heard it described as "Hieronymous Bosch meets the
Simpsons." This body of work includes colorful paintings,
intricate drawings, and etchings. His references to artists of
historical importance are obvious, as are his references to contemporary
society. When asked if there was another artist he was interested
in exhibiting with, Bartley was eager to introduce an artist
fairly new to the area with whom he has collaborated on works
of art. Sam McBride offers a series of delicate drawings of creatures
that seem almost toy-like, but with an eerie quality to them.
They seem to spin, flounder, or ramble off the paper on which
they are drawn. Together, these two artists also created pieces
speciifically for this exhibit. It is wonderful to think that
this web site project has encouraged such artistic energy!
Shown here are
collaborative pieces by Bartley Johnson and Sam McBride. See
